Our Process for Cleaning
Gutters
Brad Forrest, Owner
Having clean gutters is important for increasing the longevity of your home because it allows the water to drain properly. Here's our process for getting it done properly.
Materials:
-
Ladders
-
A bucket
-
A bucket hook
-
Garden hose nozzle
-
Gloves
-
Gutter cleaning tool & extension pole
-
Hose
1. Setting up the ladder
We start by positioning the ladder so that it is leaning against the gutter at the top of the house. Ideally, 3 rungs of the ladder will be above the gutter. See more about ladder safety in our page on it here.
2. Cleaning the Debris With Our Hands
We put on our gloves and start grabbing the debris out of the gutters. The extension pole and gutter cleaning tool allows us to clean several feet on either side to help eliminate ladder movements. The bucket hook is used to bring the bucket up and will be used to collect the debris from the gutter so that it doesn't get on the customer's property. We will then move the ladder and repeat the process until the gutter is done.
3. Spraying out the Gutter
We will set up the ladder on the opposite side of the gutter as the down spout and begin spraying out the excess debris from the gutter using the hose and the garden hose nozzle. This is especially useful for small bits that frequently fall from the shingles during the rain as these are too small to pick up with hands. The excess debris is sprayed until all the debris has fallen down the downspout.
4. Checking to See Where the Debris Fell
Sometimes, debris accidentally falls out and lands on ground or land on the siding of the house. We are cautious to check and see if some of the debris fell on the siding or a nice area on the ground (such as a patio) and will use the nozzle to hose it down.
5. Repeat
We then repeat the first 4 steps with each gutter until finished. We typically like to work from the top down because some of the top gutters’ downspouts drain into lower gutters.
